We need to sit outside and watch the birds.
(2025 - ongoing)
We need to sit outside and watch the birds explores an individual way of dealing with grief. Llew Curtis-Jones takes us on a journey through a Welsh landscape in which he processes the loss of his grandmother, and continues the bird watching that they used to do together. Stemming from an interest in anthotypes, their temporality, and the potential to articulate the relationship between memories and fading, We need to sit outside and watch the birds uses the metaphor of two birds slowly growing apart, fading away, much like memory during the time of grieving. The landscapes throughout the project show walks taken by Curtis-Jones, once alongside his grandmother, now alone in an unfolding story, communicating what is remembered while reflecting on the loss taken.
